After winning four games on the trot in the Premier League, Manchester United will kick start their Europa League campaign tonight against Real Sociedad. As far as the team news is concerned, Ten Hag could make a number of changes to the squad that started against Arsenal last weekend. The Dutch manager has confirmed that Ronaldo is an obvious option to start and therefore, we can expect the Portugal captain to feature as the lone center forward up front. Rashford could be rested vs the Txuri-Urdin.

In the attacking midfield, Fernandes and Antony may retain their positions, on the other hand, Elanga could return in place of Jadon Sancho to start on the left flank. As far as the central midfield is concerned, Brazil duo of Fred and summer signing, Casemiro, should replace the likes of Eriksen and McTominay. At the back, captain, Maguire, would probably return and partner Victor Lindelof in the central defense in front of David De Gea. Three-time European champions Manchester United have moved out of the Premier League relegation zone following the win at home to Liverpool at the start of this week. According to Media Foot, Chelsea have entered the race to sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, who is also a transfer target for the Blues’ arch-rivals Manchester United this summer. Sesko joined Salzburg from Slovenian outfit NK Domzale in the summer of 2019, but spent his first couple of seasons in Austria largely playing for FC Liefering, who operate as Salzburg’s reserve side. The 19-year-old made his senior debut for the Austrian giants last year and has since gone onto feature 38 times in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and setting up eight more.

Sesko has made a sprightly start to the 2022/23 campaign in Austria, already bagging a couple of goals and an assist in two matches in all competitions. While he is still at the nascent stages of his career, the teenage sensation has attracted a lot of eyeballs due to his potential and promise, with the striker even dubbed the new ‘Erling Haaland’ in some corners. A recent report from COPE has revealed that Jorge Mendes, the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, had held a meeting with Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the Atletico Madrid CEO, at the start of July. The Portuguese super-agent had offered Atleti the chance to sign the Manchester United attacker ahead of the new season. Mendes stressed that the attacker’s hefty wages should not be a problem as the player is willing to lower his demands. His main issue is from a sporting perspective and not from an economic perspective, as the Manchester United forward is keen on playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Ronaldo’s current club Manchester United have appeared as an undesirable option for the attacker after the club missed out on a top-four finish last season. It means the Red Devils are set to participate in the UEFA Europa League in the upcoming 2022/23 campaign, which has forced the attacker to consider an exit as soon as possible. Manchester United have serious doubts over the signing of Ajax Amsterdam defender Lisandro Martinez who has emerged as their transfer target this summer. This is according to English journalist David Ornstein who writes for The Athletic. He confirmed the interest of Manchester United in signing Argentine international Martinez before adding that club officials are apprehensive about the deal due to his physical requirements.

Apart from Manchester United, Premier League rivals Arsenal are also interested in the player. Arsenal are leading the race to sign the 24-year-old with manager Mikel Arteta keen to add the player to his squad ahead of the new season. Martinez is a versatile player who can conveniently perform well as a left-back, a left-sided centre back and as a defensive midfielder.Arteta and Arsenal have already been rebuffed in their quest to sign the Argentine player. The Dutch giants have had a €30m bid turned down for Martinez from the Gunners. Continue reading “UNITED HAVE DOUBTS OVER MARTINEZ”

La Liga sides Real Betis and Sevilla are reportedly in the race to sign Juan Mata on a free transfer from Manchester United. According to Mundo Deportivo, Juan Mata has multiple clubs lining up for his signature as his contract with Manchester United runs down later this month. La Liga giants Real Betis and Sevilla are said to be among clubs vying for Mata’s signature.

The Spaniard spent eight and a half years at Old Trafford after arriving in the 2014 January transfer window from Chelsea. Though Mata could not win the league title at Manchester United, he managed to add the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup and another UEFA Europa League to his trophy cabinet. While Mata was one of the most important players at the club in his first few years, he slowly fell down the pecking order and was eventually deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United. The 34-year-old was given a one-year extension on his contract last year, but opportunities were hard to come by in the 2021/22 season.
