JONES ON WEST HAM UNITED RADAR

The future of Phil Jones at Manchester United is in serious doubts and he could leave the Old Trafford club this summer. The England international is surplus to requirements after Manchester United agreed a deal for Frenchman Raphael Varane.

Manchester United have several central defenders in the first team including the aforementioned Jones and that didn’t stop the club from agreeing a deal with Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid to sign Varane for an initial fee of £34m plus £7m in add-ons.

Apart from Englishman Jones, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe are the other centre back options at Manchester United.

West Ham United are interested in signing Jones as reported by Eurosport. It was revealed that a deal to sign for the Hammers could be on if the former Blackburn Rovers defender is willing to agree to a heavily incentivised contract.

Manchester United defender Jones has been plagued by injuries during his time at the Theatre of Dreams. He joined the Red Devils from Blackburn Rovers over a decade ago while Sir Alex Ferguson was still the manager. Jones has not played for the Red Devils in almost two years mainly due to injury. He missed the whole of last season due to a knee injury.

Jones has two years left on his Manchester United contract but the club could release him from the contract to reduce their wage bill which is on the rise due to the signing of winger Jadon Sancho and the imminent arrival of Varane.

Newcastle United are long-term admirers of Jones, but the centre back has a new admirer in West Ham United with manager David Moyes keen to work with him again after their time together at Old Trafford eight years ago.

Jones earns £100,000 on a weekly basis at Manchester United but the Hammers are not willing to offer him up to that. West Ham United will hand him a reduced salary with add-ons whenever he plays for the London club.
