Liverpool favourite hoping United aid in Reds’ pursuit of the Premier League

Former Liverpool star John Arne Riise has said that the Reds may require some assistance from Manchester United in order to secure their maiden Premier League crown this term. Jurgen Klopp’s side have enjoyed an exceptional season by their standards in the top-flight but they are still one point behind Manchester City in the pursuit of the title.

Speaking to BeIN Sports, Riise acknowledged that the title race could go down to the wire and United could have a major say on the Reds’ prospects of securing a maiden Premier League crown, he said: “Well I hope we get some help from the neighbours of City, Man U. They’ve got to meet them away from home. Man United have got to win as well to get to the top four. So I look at that game, it could be crucial for City. But they’re looking so strong. Yes [Liverpool can win six out of six], yes [Liverpool will win six out of six]. They will win, but there are some tough games, they haven’t played at their best lately.”

Pep Guardiola’s team have a couple of tricky games against Tottenham and United to contend with during the final stages of the season but the latter could be the toughest of the lot, given the Red Devils will be determined to deny their cross-town rivals with another league title. In comparison, Liverpool have only Chelsea to tackle at home when it comes to the top six, but the game won’t be easy, considering the Blues have a good record against the Merseyside outfit.

Liverpool have failed to beat Chelsea during the previous five meetings with three of those results ending in a 1-1 draw. The Reds are scheduled to face Southampton on the road during Friday’s Premier League showdown. The match offers them with the opportunity to leapfrog the Citizens on the table once more with Guardiola’s team on FA Cup duty at the weekend.
